The Unique Benefits of Choosing Alpacas for Your Farm

A lot of people ask me, why alpaca, and why did I start an alpaca farm? Well, to be honest, I fell in love with alpaca fiber when I started knitting. I already had the farm, so why not raise alpaca, so I can have my own stash of endless, sustainable fiber!

  1. There are so many uses for alpaca fiber—scarves, hats, gloves, mittens, rugs, runners, shawls, sweaters, pants, and other clothing. Did you know that we put out supplies of second-cut fiber for birds to build their nests every year? Second cuts are basically the leg and neck fiber cuttings of the alpaca that can be used for things other than clothing. You can also make dryer balls that last up to two years, replacing your Bounty laundry sheets. Alpaca fiber wicks away moisture in the dryer, and by applying your favorite essential oils, your laundry can also smell nice!

Felting is another method to create so many things with alpaca fiber. You can make hats, purses, and sheets for designing clothing through felting.

Weaving is one of my favorite crafts to make all my scarves. I teach lessons on how to weave, also supplying the materials, loom and other tools to create your own weaving room.
